The thyroid panel, called a thyroid function test, looks at levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroxine (T4), and triiodothyronine (T3) in the blood. Thyroid hormone plays a major role in regulating metabolism—the process by which body cells convert nutrients into energy—and thereby helps regulate body temperature, heart rate, and even brain function. So when thyroid hormone levels fall, the body slows. The collection method is a blood draw, and results will be emailed to the patient through Elation, our electronic health records system.
